[ Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 ]

Final day of our short trip, and we chose to spend the last morning in Kuching at the beach. Not to relax, but to find the elusive white robberfly!

Permai Beach

Robberfly (Asilidae) - DSC_2915#1 Found this robberfly having breakfast while on my way to breakfast

Millipede (Diplopoda) - DSC_2919#2 A white millepede resting on a leaf

Robberfly (Asilidae) - DSC_2938#3 Another Robberfly with breakfast, helping to clean up the mosquito population

Robberfly (Asilidae) - DSC_2959#4 A wasp-mimic robberfly that David found by the beach

Robberfly (Asilidae) - DSC_2968#5 Didn’t move much, so I could go closer.. and closer!

#6 We were on our knees at the beach, attracting curious stares

#7 Just what were we chasing?

#8 Our macro super hero shows us what he captured

#9 I made my attempts much later, and everyone helped me to track the robberfly

Robberfly (Asilidae) - DSC_2992#10 The white Robberfly. Looks really exotic.

Robberfly (Asilidae) - DSC_2995#11 Clearest shot I got, going as low as I could get.

Robberfly (Asilidae) - DSC_3022#12 Look at the “beard”!!

Treehoppers (Membracidae) - DSC_3081b#15 Melvyn found several of these treehoppers. They had bunny-like ears in place of the usual horns. This pair was mating. Another one had little kids in front of it, but I missed that shot. Everyone was rushing back to pack their bags in time to leave for the airport.

#16 Interesting poster at the airport. Not allowed to bring mangoes out of the country because of… weevils!?

With that, our 4D3N trip has concluded. Many thanks to Lance for organizing the trip and attending to the many little details, to Melvyn and Wyn for finding so many subjects for us, to David for looking after us when leeches attacked his bag and Nick for entertaining us with his Kailan orders. 😛 Pity that I lost one walkie talkie at Kubah, but there were many memories that we brought back, and lots of photos! Just wondering if David brought back any leeches…
